For many years, my work has centered around helping people grow independence.

Not dependence.

I support adults with developmental disabilities, and one of the most important things I have learned is this:

Real confidence grows when people are invited to think for themselves.

So when artificial intelligence suddenly became part of everyday life, I noticed something right away.

It reminded me of something I had already seen before.

AI can support thinking.

Or it can quietly replace it.

And the difference depends on how we choose to use it.


What My Work Taught Me About Independence

In my daily work, progress does not come from doing things for someone.

It comes from doing things with them.

Sometimes that means slowing down.

Sometimes that means waiting for a response.

Sometimes that means allowing mistakes.

But every step builds confidence.

Every decision strengthens the ability to participate in life more fully.

Over time I learned something that changed the way I see technology too:

Support should never remove someone’s opportunity to think.

Support should strengthen it.

When AI appeared, I immediately recognized the same pattern.


The Moment I Noticed Something Felt Different

The first time I used AI to help organize my ideas, I was impressed.

I asked a simple question.

Instead of giving me a suggestion, it gave me the entire answer.

Fast.

Clear.

Complete.

And for a second, I thought wow, this saves so much time.

But then something inside me paused.

Because I had not done the thinking.

The tool had done it for me.

That was the moment I realized I needed to decide how I was going to use AI in my life.

Not just what it could do.

But what it should do.


Why Shortcuts Are Not Always Helpful

There is nothing wrong with saving time.

But there is something important about staying engaged in the thinking process.

When we stop thinking, we stop learning.

When we stop learning, we slowly lose confidence in our ability to make decisions.

I have seen this in classrooms.

I have seen this in skill building programs.

And now I see it happening with AI.

If we let tools do too much too quickly, we lose the opportunity to grow.

That is not what I want for myself.

And it is not what I want for the families I support.


The Rule I Created for Myself

So I made a simple decision early on.

I would use AI as a thinking partner.

Not a shortcut.

That means I let AI help me organize ideas, but I still choose what matters.

I let AI suggest options, but I still make decisions.

I let AI clarify information, but I stay involved in the process.

This small shift changed everything.

Instead of feeling replaced by technology, I started feeling supported by it.


How I Use AI at Work and at Home

At work, AI helps me plan activities, organize communication, and explore new ideas that support learning environments.

At home, it helps me think through weekly routines, reflect on priorities, and come up with creative ideas for time with my daughter.

Sometimes we even use it together for drawing prompts or story starters.

The goal is never to replace imagination.

The goal is to spark it ✨

When used this way, AI becomes calm support instead of noise.


Why This Matters for Beginners Using AI

Many people feel unsure about AI right now.

They are curious, but also cautious.

They want help, but they do not want to lose their voice in the process.

That makes sense.

You do not need complicated prompts.

You do not need technical experience.

You only need one mindset shift:

Let AI support your thinking.

Do not let it replace it.

That is where clarity begins.


A Faith Reflection That Guides Me

One verse I return to often when I think about technology and decision making is Philippians 4:8:

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things.” (NIV)

This verse reminds me that thinking is not something we are meant to outsource.

It is something we are meant to protect.

AI can help us organize our thoughts.

But we are still responsible for choosing what we focus on.

And that responsibility is a gift.

One thing that helped me move forward was choosing tools that reduced complexity instead of adding to it.

One platform I personally use is systeme.io. It allows me to manage email updates, create simple funnels, and organize content in one place, which removed a lot of decision fatigue when I was starting.

I also rely on Hostinger to host my website. Having a stable and beginner friendly hosting platform gave me the confidence to publish content without constantly worrying about technical issues.
