When I Don’t Know What to Do Next, I Ask AI This One Question

⏱ Reading time: about 6 minutes

Sometimes I just cannot think straight.

My thoughts race, and I lose focus, not because I am lazy, but because I am juggling too many things at once.

There are family chores, helping with homework, school deadlines and tests, packing lunches, laundry, work tasks, and graduate school reading and assignments that need real focus. On top of that, I am already trying to prepare for tomorrow while still getting through today.

This feeling usually hits me after lunch on weekends, when I look ahead and see there is no break in sight.

I start warming up food, put in a load of laundry, check the calendar, open my laptop, and then freeze. Nothing gets finished because I am trying to do everything at once.

Then the self-talk starts.

Why can’t I just get it together?

Why am I wasting time?

Why is this so hard?

The pressure builds and stress adds up. I start blaming myself, even though I know rushing does not solve feeling overwhelmed. It just makes it worse.

That is the moment when I pause.

I take a deep breath and ask myself a new question.

What if I could get help planning this, instead of making my brain handle it all by itself?

What I wanted help with ?

I did not want AI to make decisions for me.

I wanted help seeing clearly.

I wanted a plan I could actually manage, one that fit the time I had. I needed help sorting my priorities so I could stop feeling stuck and start making progress.

So I asked one simple question, using plain language, as if I was talking to someone who cares.

The one question I ask AI

Here it is, exactly how I asked it:

Help me figure out my priorities and plan my next steps based on the time I have available today.

That is it.

It does not have to be perfect or complicated. The real benefit is not in sounding smart, but in letting myself accept help.

Because this one question gives me permission to stop doing everything alone.

Instead of adding more to my plate, it takes some pressure off. Now I have a plan, I feel more organized, and I can breathe again.

Why does it get easier over time?

The first time I tried this, it helped right away.

And over time, it got even better.

It is not because I became more technical, but because I learned how to say what I need. Using a prompt is like learning a new way to communicate. The more you practice, the more natural it feels.

It reminds me of using Siri or Alexa. At first, you repeat yourself and change your words. After a while, it understands you better. The same thing happens with generative AI. You get clearer, the conversation gets easier, and the support feels more personal.

But you do not have to wait until you are perfect at it.

You can start with one simple sentence.

What happens after I ask

After I ask that question, I usually get a plan I can actually follow.

Not a fantasy schedule.

I get a realistic list of next steps, in a clear order, based on what matters most and what fits into my available time.

I do not always act on it immediately. Sometimes I am too tired or I have to switch into mom mode.

When that happens, I save it.

You can save your plan in a notes app, a document, or a folder on your computer. I usually save mine in Google Drive so I can find it later if a chat disappears. The point is not to make another complicated system.

The goal is to stop losing the plan that helped you.

Even if I do not follow the plan perfectly, it still helps because it gives me clarity.

And often, clarity is what my mind really needs.

The deeper meaning for me

This taught me something important.

Feeling overwhelmed is not a character flaw. It is a sign that my mind is carrying too much at once.

And I am allowed to get help before I reach burnout.

It showed me something I did not want to admit at first. I often feel like I need permission to ask for help. I assume I should handle everything because I am capable.

But capable does not mean alone.

Now, when I get stuck, I do not stay there forever.

I have a way out.

I feel more confident and get more done in less time. I still make the decisions. AI is not running my life; it just supports my thinking.

That is the human side of this.

I choose the priorities. I set the values. I decide what matters today.

AI just helps me organize the chaos into something I can actually work through.

If you are reading this and thinking, that is me

Friend, if you got this far, you probably understand the feeling.

You might feel useless, guilty, or behind, like you are wasting time and failing at everything.

But you are not failing. You are overloaded.

And you do not have to stay stuck.

Try taking one step at a time. There is no wrong way to start. You do not have to be afraid of AI, and you do not have to see it as a magic fix either.

In the AI Mama Boss world, AI is a gentle, creative helper—not a replacement for your voice or wisdom. It can support you with calm and clarity while you stay in control.

For me, being unstuck now means finishing things I used to leave half done. It means making progress in small bits of time and moving forward with less stress and more peace.

Trusting support changes everything.

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.

Proverbs 16:3 (NIV)

This verse reminds me that planning does not have to begin with pressure. It can begin with trust. When I pause and give what I am carrying to the Lord, I am not asking for a perfect plan. I am asking for guidance and steadiness. Sometimes that guidance comes through prayer, sometimes through quiet clarity, and sometimes through tools that help me think more clearly. What matters is my attitude. When I lead with trust instead of panic, my plans feel lighter and start to take shape with peace.

Helpful Resources I Use

One thing that helped me move forward was choosing tools that reduced complexity instead of adding to it.

One platform I personally use is systeme.io. It allows me to manage email updates, create simple funnels, and organize content in one place, which removed a lot of decision fatigue when I was starting.

I also rely on Hostinger to host my website. Having a stable and beginner friendly hosting platform gave me the confidence to publish content without constantly worrying about technical issues.

These tools are not about doing more. They help me do less, with more intention.
